Top 5 Common Acne Myths

There are many myths out there about acne and its causes and cures. Let’s talk about the 5 most common ones. Acne Myth #1 Chocolate and Greasy Foods Cause Acne Good news!! You can still eat chocolate without worrying about your skin breaking out. Studies have shown that it’s not the chocolate or greasy foods that are causing your breakouts- it’s more likely the iodides/iodine that are added to most of these foods from iodized salt which can aggravate pores.   Acne Myth #2 Dirty Skin and Hair Dangling on the Forehead Cause Acne Have you always been told that having bangs will cause breakouts or that you aren’t washing your skin enough? Guess what- it isn’t dirt that is causing your acne! Acne is formed about 2mm below the skins surface when pesky dead skin cells along with your skin’s own oil combine and clog pores. You cannot scrub away or cleanse acne from your pores- so keep on rocking those bangs with confidence!   Acne Myth #3 Acne is a Teenage Disease Acne is a common genetic disorder of the pores and does not discriminate against age. There are so many factors like hormones, stress, diet, make-up, etc. that can cause acne later in life.
